❝F.A.Q.❞
Q: What is an RPG?
A: An RPG is an acronym for a role-playing game. Essentially, it involves you - the player - taking on the role of a fictious character and expressing their thoughts and actions in a game format.

Q: How does the whole journal thing work, anyhow?
A: The way we role-play at Suspects involves expressing your characters through epistolaries - specifically in the form of journal entries. Like on-line social networks, characters may comment on said entries and reply to these comments. This is dependent upon whether the character is able to see the entry or not.

An entry, or portion of an entry hexed private or to a select person(s) can only be responded to by those people.

All players must be able to see all game entries, so please do not friends lock them.

Entries should be written in first-person, unless your character has a quirky habit of writing in third person. We would not recommend this, unless it's a one-off situation. Not everyone can have the same quirk.

Q: When and where is this game set?
A: We're set in 2000, and follow a real-time calender (and the GMT timezone, if you want to be really specific). Suspects aims to be geographically based around London, England - but we are not limiting all action to that location alone.

Q: Are you canon-compliant? Epilogue-compliant?
A: We are canon-compliant all the way through to Deathly Hallows, including the epilogue.

Q: I have this really awesome character, but they aren't listed on the available character list! May I apply for them anyway?
A: No. Only the characters listed are available for application.

Q: I don't want the character I am applying for to be friends with so and so, or related to such and such. Can this be changed?
A: No. The predetermined relationships are to ensure that all characters in the game have connections to one another and are able to interact through those predetermined connections. You are free to extrapolate and evolve those relationships (or realistically break them down) if that is your wish - but it must be done within the context of the game, and must be built up. No random out of the blue break-ups, please, without the appropriate motivation.

Q: May I change the name/house of my character?
A: No.

Q: Does my character have to live in Unit X?
A: At the start of the game? Yes. In fact, we would prefer if all characters remained in their current apartments and did not swap.

Q: Are there NPCs living in the building?
A: Definitely. Most of them will be under mod-control, but those who have NPCs living in their character's apartments will have flexibility to cardboard them and use them within reason. If you have a fantastic idea for an NPC concept, let us know! We'd love to hear it.

Q: Are you going to be killing off my character?
A: No. Or rather, not unless you want us to.

Q: How many floors are there? Which apartments are located where?
Please check here for more information!

Q: Will all the players know the actual answer and only the characters be in the dark, or will players find out what is going on as the characters do?
A: Players will find out what is going on as the characters do, as we believe that the mystery will keep up the motivation for players to find out the answer and keep playing the game.

Q: Will you release clues to the mystery over the course of the game?
A: Yes, we will release clues and red-herrings to the mystery over the course of the game.

Q: Do character actions affect the release of clues or will they be discovered on a pre-set schedule and characters will just react?
A: The actions of the characters do and will affect the release of the clues. Think of it as a choose-your-own adventure. There will be various opportunities for players to sign up for the chance to have their character discover a new clue, provided they choose to open that door, or look under the bed, etc. Other clues and evidence will simply be provided via the mod journal as general/assumed information. Characters will ICly choose their own suspects based on the assumed information at the start of the game.

Q: Where the hell am I going to get more information? I can't find anything on the mod journal with more details on the case!
A: Breathe. All information about the actual case will be posted at [info]thecasebook. Only members of the game will have access as we have chosen to keep this information flocked.
